In the Ashtavinayak yatra
The Ashtavinayak are eight Ganesha temples in Maharashtra. According to Maharashtra Tourism the yatra begins and ends at Morgaon: Morgaon, Siddhatek, Pali, Mahad, Theur, Lenyadri, Ozar, Ranjangaon and back to Morgaon. Morgaon is the first stop, and the yatra ends with the return here. Tradition holds all eight images to be swayambhu, found in natural form rather than carved (Maharashtra Tourism leaflet).
The story (by tradition)
The temple trust gives this story: in the Treta Yuga the demons Sindhu and Kamalasura had imprisoned the gods. A peacock was born of a wife of the sage Kashyapa; riding it, Ganesha killed Sindhu and Kamalasura, and the five gods (Panchadeva) named him Mayureshwar and installed him here on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi. According to the trust the Mudgala Purana describes this place; we have not checked that chapter ourselves.
According to the trust the present image is not the original; tradition says the original lies unseen behind it.
The temple
According to the trust the temple is about 50 ft high, with minaret-like pillars at its four corners and a Nandi facing Ganesha; it also holds images of the eight forms of Ganesha of the Mudgala Purana. According to Maharashtra Tourism the image faces east, and according to its leaflet the trunk turns to the left. The trust’s tradition holds that Samarth Ramdas composed the aarti "Sukhakarta Dukhaharta" at Morgaon.

- The consorts beside Moreshwar: the trust names Siddhi on the left and Buddhi on the right, and the Maharashtra Tourism leaflet also Siddhi and Buddhi, but the same department’s web page Riddhi and Siddhi.
- Distance from Pune: the Maharashtra Tourism web page gives about 80 km, its leaflet 66 km by road.
- The order of the yatra: Maharashtra Tourism gives Morgaon, Siddhatek, Pali, Mahad, Theur, Lenyadri, Ozar, Ranjangaon and back to Morgaon. The Ranjangaon trust’s old website (archived copy of 2019) puts Siddhatek near the end: Morgaon, Pali, Mahad, Theur, Lenyadri, Ozar, Ranjangaon, Siddhatek and back to Morgaon.
