Frequently asked questions

Is my name sent or saved anywhere?

No. The card is drawn in your browser. Your name and chosen verse do not reach our server.

What are the muhurat times on the card based on?

The same calculation as on the festival pages: Ghatasthapana by Drik Panchang’s rule (the first third of the day in Pratipada, avoiding Chitra and Vaidhriti, in a dual-sign lagna), the Vijay muhurat as the eleventh muhurta of the day, the Karva Chauth puja after sunset and then moonrise, the Lakshmi Puja while Pradosh kaal, the Vrishabha lagna and Amavasya run together, the Bhai Dooj tilak in the Aparahna (the fourth fifth of the day), and the Chhath arghyas at sunset and sunrise. For New Delhi the times match Drik Panchang within a minute or two.

Where are the card’s verses from?

From each festival’s greeting-verse page, where every verse was checked word by word in two separate editions and carries its source, meaning and variants. The card shows the source’s short name; the full source is on that page.

What does today’s card show, and where do the times come from?

Today’s date and weekday; the tithi at sunrise (udaya tithi) with its paksha and month, and until when it lasts; the day’s vrat or festival from the site’s festival calendar; sunrise, sunset and Rahu Kaal for the city you pick; and the verse of the day from chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Gita, the same one the home page shows. The date is the date in India, and the times are worked out on your phone with SanatanBodh’s own panchang (astronomy-engine, Lahiri ayanamsha). For New Delhi they were checked against Drik Panchang: sunrise, sunset and Rahu Kaal within a minute, the tithi’s end about a minute or two later.
