In short

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi 2027 is on Monday, 18 January 2027. It is the Ekadashi of Pausha Shukla Paksha (Purnimanta; Pausha in the Amanta calendar). In New Delhi the Ekadashi tithi runs from 10:28 AM to 7:50 AM (19 January), and the fast is broken (parana) on Tuesday, 19 January 2027, 1:35–3:42 PM.

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi falls in the bright half of Pausha. “Putrada” means “giver of a son”; by tradition the fast is kept by those who wish for a son or a child, and Lord Narayana is worshipped on the day. The Ekadashi of Shravana Shukla is also called Putrada, hence the “Pausha” in this one’s name.

This time Drik Panchang also lists a Gauna (Vaishnava) Ekadashi on 19 January 2027; families of the Vaishnava tradition fast on that day.

The story

The story of King Suketuman

As the Padma Purana tells it, King Suketuman of Bhadravati grieved deeply that he had no son. One day he rode alone into the forest. At midday, by a lake, he met sages called the Vishvedevas, who told him that the day was Putrada Ekadashi. On their word the king kept the fast and broke it on Dwadashi, and in time the queen gave birth to a radiant son.
