The story of Prince Lumpaka
As the Padma Purana tells it, King Mahishmata of Champavati had driven out his eldest son Lumpaka for his misdeeds. Living under an old peepal tree in the forest, Lumpaka lay numb with cold on the night of Pausha Krishna Dashami, went hungry on the Ekadashi, laid the fruit he had gathered at the tree’s root as an offering to the Lord, and stayed awake all night. This fast, kept without knowing it, changed his heart, and he won back his kingdom.
