In short

Vijaya Ekadashi 2027 is on Thursday, 4 March 2027. It is the Ekadashi of Phalguna Krishna Paksha (Purnimanta; Magha in the Amanta calendar). In New Delhi the Ekadashi tithi runs from 4:45 AM (3 March) to 7:25 AM, and the fast is broken (parana) on Friday, 5 March 2027, 6:43–9:03 AM.

Vijaya Ekadashi falls in the dark half of Phalguna (Purnimanta), a few days before Maha Shivratri. As the name says, the Padma Purana calls it the Ekadashi that gives victory; its rite is the worship of an image of Lord Narayana set on a pot of water, with a night vigil.

The story

Shri Rama and the sage Bakadalbhya

As the Padma Purana tells it, on the seashore before the march on Lanka, Shri Rama asked Lakshmana how so deep a sea could be crossed. On Lakshmana’s advice he went to the sage Bakadalbhya, who lived on an island close by. The sage told him to keep the fast of Phalguna Krishna Ekadashi with the worship of a sacred pot. Shri Rama kept it with the chiefs of his army, and by the katha that is how he won Lanka.
