A month’s first day is the day Shukla Pratipada begins on: usually the first sunrise after Amavasya. When Pratipada begins on the Amavasya day and ends before the next sunrise (kshaya), that day both ends the old month and begins the new, as Drik Panchang marks it "30, 1". Each day’s tithi is the one at sunrise in Ahmedabad.

Dates are those of Drik Panchang’s panchang for Ahmedabad. Where we have a page about the same day of a festival, its name links to it.

How the Gujarati calendar is reckoned

The Gujarati panchang is amanta (the month ends on Amavasya) and its year is Kartikadi: the new year begins on Kartika Shukla Pratipada, after Diwali, on Bestu Varas. Years are counted in the Vikram era. North India’s Vikram Samvat turns at Chaitra, so from Chaitra to Aso the Gujarati number is one less: in October 2026 Gujarat counts Samvat 2082 and North India 2083.

A date is written with "sud" (સુદ, Shukla paksha) or "vad" (વદ, Krishna paksha) and the tithi’s number: "Aso vad 7" is Ashwin Krishna Saptami. Purnima is sud 15 and Amavasya vad 30 (Amas).

When two new moons fall while the Sun stays in one rashi, the month between them is adhika (extra, also called Purushottam) and the regular month of the same name follows. In 2026 Adhik Jeth ran from 17 May 2026 to 15 June 2026; 2026–27 has no adhika month.

All dates and times are for Ahmedabad. A tithi or nakshatra changes at the same moment all over India; sunrise, sunset and Rahu kalam move by a few minutes in other cities, and when a tithi changes close to sunrise its day can now and then differ by one. Ask your purohit for the sankalp of a vrat.

Frequently asked questions

Which month of the Gujarati calendar is it now?

The month now running is Aso (આસો), from 11 October 2026 to 9 November 2026 (Amavasya); Kartak follows from 10 November 2026. Each day's tithi, paksha and nakshatra are in the "today" box above, which turns at sunrise in Ahmedabad.

When is Gujarati New Year 2026?

On Tuesday, 10 November 2026: Vikram Samvat 2083 begins with Kartika Shukla Pratipada (Bestu Varas). Diwali’s Lakshmi Puja is on Sunday, 8 November 2026 and Annakut (Govardhan Puja) on Monday, 9 November 2026: Amavasya holds at sunrise on 9 November, so Pratipada falls on 10 November. The next new year, Samvat 2084, is on Saturday, 30 October 2027.

Which Gujarati Vikram Samvat is it in 2026?

Vikram Samvat 2082 from 22 October 2025 to 9 November 2026, and Vikram Samvat 2083 from 10 November 2026 to 29 October 2027. North India has counted 2083 since Chaitra 2026, because its year turns at Chaitra.

What do sud and vad mean?

Sud (સુદ) is Shukla paksha, the fortnight after Amavasya when the Moon waxes; vad (વદ) is Krishna paksha, the fortnight after Purnima. "Kartak sud 1" is Bestu Varas and "Aso vad 30" the Amavasya of Diwali time.

Is the Gujarati calendar amanta or purnimanta?

Amanta: the month ends on Amavasya. Shukla-paksha festivals fall in the same month in both reckonings; Krishna-paksha ones fall one month earlier in the Gujarati calendar than in North India’s calendar.

Which city are the times for?

All dates and times are for Ahmedabad. A tithi or nakshatra changes at the same moment all over India; sunrise, sunset and Rahu kalam move by a few minutes in other cities, and when a tithi changes close to sunrise its day can now and then differ by one. Ask your purohit for the sankalp of a vrat.
