A month’s first day is the day Shukla Pratipada begins on: usually the first sunrise after Amavasya. When Pratipada begins on the Amavasya day and ends before the next sunrise (kshaya), that day both ends the old month and begins the new, as Drik Panchang marks it "30, 1". Each day’s tithi is the one at sunrise in Mumbai.

Dates are those of Drik Panchang’s panchang for Mumbai. Where we have a page about the same day of a festival, its name links to it.
How the Marathi calendar is reckoned
The Marathi panchang is amanta: each month begins with Shukla Pratipada, the day after Amavasya, and ends on the next Amavasya. North India’s purnimanta month changes at Purnima, so in Krishna paksha the northern month is one ahead: Diwali’s Amavasya is Ashwin Amavasya in the Marathi calendar and Kartik Amavasya in the North.
The year begins on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada (Gudi Padwa) and is counted in the Shalivahana Shaka era: Shaka + 78 is the Gregorian year in which it begins (Shaka 1948 = 2026–27). Each year carries a name from the same 60-year samvatsara cycle as the Telugu and Kannada calendars: Shaka 1948 is Parabhava and Shaka 1949 Plavanga.
When two new moons fall while the Sun stays in one rashi, the month between them is adhika (extra, also called Purushottam) and the regular month of the same name follows. In 2026 Adhik Jyeshtha ran from 17 May 2026 to 15 June 2026; 2027–28 has no adhika month.
All dates and times are for Mumbai. A tithi or nakshatra changes at the same moment all over India; sunrise, sunset and Rahu kalam move by a few minutes in other cities, and when a tithi changes close to sunrise its day can now and then differ by one. Ask your purohit for the sankalp of a vrat.
Frequently asked questions
Which month of the Marathi calendar is it now?
The month now running is Ashwin (आश्विन), from 11 October 2026 to 9 November 2026 (Amavasya); Kartik follows from 10 November 2026. Each day's tithi, paksha and nakshatra are in the "today" box above, which turns at sunrise in Mumbai.
Which samvatsara is 2026–27?
Parabhava (पराभव), Shaka 1948: from Thursday, 19 March 2026 (Gudi Padwa) to 6 April 2027. Then Plavanga (प्लवंग), Shaka 1949, from Wednesday, 7 April 2027 to 26 March 2028. They are names 40 and 41 in the cycle of 60.
When is Gudi Padwa 2027?
On Wednesday, 7 April 2027, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada; Shaka 1949 (Plavanga) begins that day. The last Gudi Padwa was on 19 March 2026: Amavasya held at that sunrise and Pratipada began and ended before the next one (kshaya), so the festival was kept on 19 March.
Is the Marathi calendar amanta or purnimanta?
Amanta: the month ends on Amavasya. Shukla-paksha festivals fall in the same month in both reckonings; Krishna-paksha ones fall one month earlier in the Marathi calendar than in North India’s calendar.
Which city are the times for?
All dates and times are for Mumbai. A tithi or nakshatra changes at the same moment all over India; sunrise, sunset and Rahu kalam move by a few minutes in other cities, and when a tithi changes close to sunrise its day can now and then differ by one. Ask your purohit for the sankalp of a vrat.
