In short

“Om Jai Karva Maiya” is a folk aarti sung on Karva Chauth. It calls Karva Mata the mother of the whole world and Rudrani, and praises the vrat of Kartik Krishna Chaturthi. It is sung during the evening puja, after the Karva Chauth katha has been heard. Being a folk aarti, its wording varies from region to region.

This is a folk aarti, and its wording changes by region and family. The most widely printed form is given here; many copies print ‘Om’ as a word instead of the syllable ‘ॐ’. In some places a different aarti with the same theme is sung, “Om Jai Karva Mata, Maiya Jai Karva Mata”; most of its lines differ, and its last verse says ‘kahat bhakt Asharani’. When sung, the first verse (the refrain) is repeated after every verse.

After the aarti, most homes recite: कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारं भुजगेन्द्रहारम्।
