In short

The Vindhyeshwari Chalisa is a hymn to Vindhyavasini, the Goddess of Vindhyachal, whose temple stands on the Ganga near Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. Gita Press prints it together with the Durga Chalisa. It lists many names of the Goddess and the fruits of recitation. By tradition it is recited especially during Chaitra and Sharad Navratri. Its author is not known.

This is the text of the Gita Press, Gorakhpur booklet ‘Shri Durga Chalisa evam Shri Vindhyeshwari Chalisa’ (code 1033, pages 10 to 16), which has one doha and 38 chaupais. Gita Press prints it in an older spelling (Bindhyesvari, sakti, sesh, Baisnavi, Lachchhmi, rin, nihchay); this page uses standard spelling, as the web texts do, but keeps the Gita Press words. The web texts (Drik Panchang, Vaikunth Dham) differ in a few words: ‘tumhin’ for ‘tu hi’ and ‘tum hi’; the two lines of chaupai 12 in reverse order; another word for ‘Unnani’ in chaupai 13; ‘Sugandha’ for ‘Sankati’ in chaupai 18; a reading with ‘Ambe’ in place of ‘sidh kariye ab yah mam bani’ in chaupai 21; ‘Devi kar jap’ for ‘Devi ka jap’ in chaupai 23; ‘jo path’ for ‘so path’ in chaupai 32. ‘Unnani’ in chaupai 13 and ‘Chausatti Devi’ in chaupai 15 are kept as names. The Chalisa carries no poet’s name.
