Translation
Do not yield to unmanliness, son of Pritha; it does not become you. Cast off this petty weakness of heart and stand up, scorcher of foes.
हे पार्थ, कायरता को मत अपना; यह तुझे शोभा नहीं देती। हे परंतप, हृदय की इस तुच्छ दुर्बलता को छोड़कर उठ खड़ा हो।
Explanation
Shri Krishna does not begin by explaining philosophy; instead he reminds Arjuna of his own nature. The forms of address "Partha" (son of Pritha, that is, Kunti) and "Parantapa" (scorcher of foes) point to his lineage and his valour. "Uttishtha" (arise) is the first command of this chapter.
