yāmimāṃ puṣpitāṃ vācaṃ pravadantyavipaścitaḥ
vedavādaratāḥ pārtha nānyadastīti vādinaḥ
yāmimāṃ puṣpitāṃ vācaṃ pravadantyavipaścitaḥ
vedavādaratāḥ pārtha nānyadastīti vādinaḥ
Word by word
Translation
Unwise people, delighting in the letter of the Vedas and saying "there is nothing else", speak flowery words.
Explanation
Verses 42–44 are read together. Shri Krishna criticises not the Vedas but those who limit the Vedas to rituals for gaining heaven and enjoyment. "Flowery speech" means words that are attractive but centred on rewards.
