Translation

ENGLISH

Better to live on alms in this world than to slay these noble teachers. Having slain them, I would enjoy here only wealth and pleasures stained with blood.

Explanation

Though a kshatriya, Arjuna is ready to accept a life of begging for alms. A victory in which every pleasure is stained with the blood of his teachers has no meaning for him. This verse shows that his despair arises not from fear but from a moral conflict.
