सञ्जय उवाच

एवमुक्त्वा हृषीकेशं गुडाकेशः परन्तप ।
न योत्स्य इति गोविन्दमुक्त्वा तूष्णीं बभूव ह ॥ ९ ॥

Sanjaya said: Having spoken thus to Hrishikesha, O King, Gudakesha said to Govinda, "I will not fight," and fell silent.

संजय बोले: हे राजन्, निद्रा को जीतने वाले अर्जुन हृषीकेश से ऐसा कहकर, और फिर गोविंद से "मैं युद्ध नहीं करूँगा" कहकर चुप हो गए।

Explanation

Arjuna’s final decision: "na yotsye" (I will not fight). Sanjaya tells Dhritarashtra that, having said this, Arjuna fell silent. The whole dialogue that follows is meant to break this silence.
