tāni sarvāṇi saṃyamya yukta āsīta matparaḥ
vaśe hi yasyendriyāṇi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā
tāni sarvāṇi saṃyamya yukta āsīta matparaḥ
vaśe hi yasyendriyāṇi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā
Word by word
Translation
Restraining them all, one should sit in yoga, intent on Me as the Supreme. For one whose senses are under control, wisdom is firmly established.
इसलिए उन सब इंद्रियों को वश में करके, मुझे परम मानते हुए योगयुक्त होकर बैठे। जिसकी इंद्रियाँ वश में हैं, उसकी बुद्धि स्थिर है।
Explanation
The way to master the senses is not mere force, but fixing the mind on God ("matparah"). The first clear hint of bhakti (devotion) in the Gita is found here, and it is developed in the later chapters.
