Word by word
Translation
Just as the embodied self passes through childhood, youth and old age in this body, so too it passes into another body; the wise are not deluded by this.
Explanation
A simple example: the body of childhood changes into that of youth, and the body of youth into that of old age, yet the "I" remains the same. Receiving a new body after death is just like this change. One who understands this does not fear death.
How this verse connects

Where does the Gita speak of rebirth?
In verses 13 and 22 of chapter 2: just as childhood, youth and old age come to the body, so the Self receives a new body; and just as a person casts off old clothes and puts on new ones.
